Who made the rail.....

Who made the rail.....

Who made the rail..... and what year

Continued from part 1 - Part 2/

Much walking is involved in our simple research of the track bed.... and along the way we noticed various names imprinted on some of the rail lengths.  Here you can see that the sleepers have gone and the rail has been pulled to the left of the bed - in fact much was either side.  We presumed it would be cheaper to remove the heavy rail once a new track was laid.

These original track bolts lay in a pile here there and every where.

A rail section from Hoesch 1934 (and my foot)

Another Hoesch section back dating to 1929 (oh and my foot again)

A Section of track from Thyssen dating to 1929

Another Thyssen section but only dating back to 1937

We beieve this to be named "G OSNABRUECK" dating back as far as 1928 - we could not identify any other track section prior to this date as yet.

A section of track from the current Polish PKP dating 1954 (So we know it was repaired and used at least up to the mid 50's

And then we came to this marking - just one length out of about 5 kilometers of track - we now presume it to be Russian (unless you know more, please let us know) which if so, perhaps would date it mid to late 1940's.

Thank you Seb S - Perhaps not Russian after all as the S49 is a new standard coding from at least 1999 but still may predate this due the 80 being used - which makes the track now more interesting.  Was it used up to 1999. (if you know more - let us know)

Now we found this part of our quest rather interesting and if you want to research any of the names on our track pictures - please let us know what you find out along with any links and we'll gladly mention you here.

To be continued on part 3/
