Well here we are ready to start the next part of our walk.... some 6 to 8 kilometers
We climbed up the embankment and just the other side of those green bushes is a bridge. The sleepers have all gone and the rails have been dragged to the sides
A closer shot of one piece of the rail - again we presume that these will all be collected once the new bed and rail is down.
Walking along we found that the rails were piled together - as in the picture. All the gravel has gone as well.
We came to the first bridge - all rails gone. It was a bit dangerous to hop across sleeper to sleeper as the road under had traffic on it and it was a full drop if you lost your footing.
A closer view of the bridge less it's tracks. Note the very old original side railings.
Having manage to get down the side here is what the bridge looks like.
Back upon the track bed - and we find some interesting nip bits.
Further on - and some more nip bits. Track washers and track nuts.
And we presume this to be the mean machine - note it has the capability to run on rails.....
Just along from the digger is this old German Railway station and believe it or not, people still live inside it as there home.
The station has its name Jedlina Dolna it is a Polish name but for sure a long time ago it would have had a German name - something we will try to find out at a later time.
So here we found many sleepers - actually 100's and 100's of them
Can you see it..... hiding!!
Indeed this line spurred off the main track where the little circle is. And it ran all the way back to the station where it buffered out.
Yet another bridge and just behind me was in fact that point which had the spur to the Station.
Again, to dangerous to cross - so we climbed down the sides and now you can see the bridge with its original side railings still in place.
Much further down the line we came across this power mast in its full glory clearly showing it's age.
Much further on and we noticed all these trees being felled. Here they are clearing the sides to ensure there will not be any trees to fall on the new line when it is laid.
However, we still had several kilometers to go so we had to climb over as best we could.
Of course some thought it was great fun too but others in the back ground did not.
This is Simon - we met him and believe it or not he carried his bike over all these trees. It was great speaking with him as he told us that the trees had been cut in the afternoon as when he passed by in the morning it was clear. He also said that the line would travel all the way to Wroclaw 80 Kilometers away and that many people were excited about the fact that this line would soon be open. (I am not so sure about the "soon", as there is a lot of work to be done)
Onward we travel and round the corner the bed takes us.
and on went the walking and walking...
Until finally we got as far as we could go. The road that followed us all the way can be seen right down the embankment. These sections of rail have been rough cut where most other breaks seem to have done with a grinder
And sadly, here we have the old German original bridge railings which are waiting to be taken away as scrap.
Now I found this interesting to say the least. Although the rail has been removed it used to sit upon these steel cushion beds. (i marked them in red for you.) Normally all hidden under the gravel
The bridge which is now being repaired. The rail and sleepers have gone and renovation work has been completed new sleepers and rail will be added back along with an all new walk way with new Railings - cant wait to see it when it done.
The workman's right hand walk way
And the left hand walk way.
The views are stunning in many places along our walk but sadly taking a photo does not give you the same view as actually being here and looking way over the mountings.
Of course, when we get to the end of our exploration walk we have to turn around and walk all the way back - and those trees took their toll this time round. This walk took us just over 6 hours to complete mainly because we were stopping many times along the way.
OK that's it for now - but we have more to explore along this line and we hope to share it with you too. Hope you have enjoyed this blogs entry.
