The Museum of Industry and Railway in Silesia, Jaworzyna Slaska, Poland is where we are this time round. A massive former German Goods yard with this impressive round house. The original name of this Polish Town was in fact called Königszelt and was a very important Part of the German Railway.
We are here to enjoy the open Weekend activities where there are several visiting locomotives and 5 are in steam today. The event was well attended by "families" with their children and of course railway enthusiasts like us.
GALA PARY - Gala Steam : Here on Sunday the 8th September 2019 we joined the long queue at 30 zloty per Adult (about 6.66 GBP) and a bit less for kids. Its a truly family day out judging by the people here.
This wonderful preservation society boasts a 18 road Round House which is fed by this working turntable.
With engines all over the place it was hard to know where to start.
A shot inside the Round House of this loco being restored.
Those of you in the know - check out this loco - it apparently is a British Steam Locomotive shipped out the UK into Poland 50 + years ago if I understood correctly. Does any one know more about it?
And here she is steaming...
Another photo of the same loco just before she came out on the table.
There were 6 locomotives in steam and this little 0-4-0 was a gem.
And here in live steam.....
One of there bigger locomotives taking it's turn on the turntable - when it was parked up the kids were allowed to go up where the driver and firemen work - as you can imagine the whistle was blowing a fare amount.
This huge locomotive attracted a large crowd and just like us many spectators were taking lots of photos and videos. The smell of the smoke reminded me of the coal on the Steam Engine at the Severn Valley Railway when I took several coache loads of customers there to learn how to drive a Steam Engine.
Yes we know it's not a steam train - but how could we not show you this lovely railcar - and yes even we asked the question - It to took its place driving on the table and up the tracks - what a car.
And the other side taken a bit later.
Close up up of a former Deutsche Reichsbahn Wagon from old German City of Breslau - now renamed Wroclaw. These wagons are original and the writing is also original.
A similar wagon but this one is from Dresden in Germany.
And from Hannover - these wagons carried people!!
The Breslau Wagon in full - note the guards hut to the rear of the wagon.
Deutsche Reichsbahn wagons
Like all big kids we could not resist a wagon ride - The length of track was not so long (perhaps similar to Didcot) but none the less it took us out of the paddock and very close to the working main line. the smell of the smoke was simply lovely. Those hands are not ours, but belonged to others unknown on this little steam ride.
This chap is a Straz officer - Fire and rescue and they actually played a big part in the security of the whole event - just up by the dormant green loco you may be able to make out the track padlock and the ground signal set at red. Traveling over the double slip point was rather nice too.
Its just here we came to a stop. Way beyond in the distance is a massive fiddle yard and another round house but this is mainly still in use for the modern wagons(you can see this on Google Earth if you want to check it out). There is the track lock and the ground signal set at red. And to the left are the two main running lines.
More to follow - it takes time to process the information and pictures.
