This old line - with much of the rails still in place crosses the roads and streams high up in the Polish mountains - this line leads into the mountains where tens of thousands of people dug out the 7 mountain bunkers and where most lost their lives.
The line is clearly not used any longer so we decided to follow it and see where we would end up.
Round a bend or two we walked
After a mile or so we came across this bridge - look at the side rails and where all the wooden walkways should be most have gone. Many, many years ago local people would have taken much of the wood and in some case section of rail were lifted and used to build farm barns etc. This bridge I did not feel confident to cross this time round but if I visit it again I will cross it for sure. In the middle of the track you can see concrete sections being placed - there seems to be some sort of work planned or is it just for the locals to use to cross, I wonder.
Another view
An amazing bridge in its day and I am sure if it could speak it would tell a tale or two.
Unlike the UK who lost much of their track beds in the 60's Poland seems to still have retained most of it, it is just the question of how much money it would cost if some stretches of track were to be reinstated. I am sure the bridges would be fine.
