The bridge was once a massive double tracked bridge.
Note the rusty condition and also the very old signal gantry.
If you look carefully you can see that only one span now crosses the river
Here you can see more clearly that one part of the bridge is missing.
This shot is important if you look carefully you will see that the second span ends on this plinth decorated in modern graffiti, also note the very old telephone cable structure.
The main Track passes over the river, the missing span is to the left.
Here we can see where the old 2nd track bed was which is now completely gone.
Looking from on the bridge towards Wroclaw
The old wooden walkway, please note the original guard rail on the right of the walkway. To be honest I dare not lean on it !! Please also note the gap between the track and the walk way - and yes people do freely walk from one side to the other.
And further along the walkway the guard rail changes to this very open more modern, if we could really say this, tubular construction. Take note of the huge gaps to the lest of the walkway and through the newer guard fence. On this occasion I did not feel confident to walk all the way across but next visit will do this task as need to check out the other side.
Mind the Gap!!
Another view of the left side / West side of the bridge.
On such bridges, as mentioned in an earlier blog post, are these turrets dating back to the German period of 1940's WW2. This example has been blown apart. Which now lends to the fact as to why part of the bridge span is missing - it can now be safely presumed destroyed perhaps during the period of WW2 - and sometime after that period the fallen bridge spans have been removed and cut up. We need to investigate this theory more.
And finally - amazingly this bogie frame has been left behind. Not even wanted for its scrap value.
We hope that in showing you these images and sharing our views that you may use some of these true scenes to help model your own layouts. Nothing is perfect as can be seen in this blog. The old is mixed in with the current time frame.
What could this bridge, turret and bogie tell us - if only they could - so to our imagination we must travel.
